2018 Outdoor Living Trends
With just a few more weeks of winter left, we’re looking forward to the newest outdoor living trends for 2018. Our team is thrilled that people are embracing the new-ish idea of outdoor ‘rooms’ now more than ever before!Plus, savvy homeowners are realizing that a patio addition is a lower cost alternative to extending the square footage of your home’s interior.
“Outdoor living is more than just a few outdoor lounge chairs lined up in a circle on your patio,” says Rebecca Eisele, Landscape Designer at Quiet Village Landscaping. “Homeowners want the same amount of comfort while entertaining outdoors as they do in their living rooms.”
Here are a few 2018 outdoor living trends we’re excited to work on for the upcoming spring and summer season in St. Louis.
Fire Features
There’s something instantly welcoming and dreamy about a fire feature. Outdoor fire pits, fireplaces and accompanying sitting walls create natural gathering spots that pull your family and friends in while also creating warmth, extending the amount of time that you can enjoy outside.
Cooling Ceiling Fans
We all know that July and August in St. Louis can sometimes be unbearably hot. Luckily, outdoor fans have come along way and are now powerful enough to make entertaining outdoors in our hot and humid summer an enjoyable reality. Plus, it’s recommended by Mosquito Squad of Greater St. Louis that even a small amount of airflow can help keep mosquitoes away from your outdoor entertaining areas. Even more reason to add an outdoor ceiling fan to your outdoor oasis!
Fashionable Fabrics
Just like your indoor sofa, you can add beautiful bursts of color and texture to your outdoor spaces with fun, fashionable fabrics. We love using bright and sunny combinations of throw pillows, outdoor rugs, hurricane lanterns and candles to coordinate with blooming seasonal container gardens.
If bold colors are too much, consider neutrals, charcoals, or browns to add cozy fabrics to your outdoor living areas.
Elevated Outdoor Furniture
There are so many new options out there that are a step above traditional wicker chairs. Choose comfortable and attractive outdoor furniture that compliments your landscape design. You can also add beautiful outdoor accents bought locally from outdoor decor boutiques, like Garden Heights Nursery. We love their collection of home decor, outdoor art, wind chimes, and more seasonally rotating items.
Outdoor living spaces are not only trendy for the home, they can also create beneficial outdoor corporate wellness areas. Businesses benefit from energizing outdoor spaces that employees can relax and enjoy lunch outdoors in. Some of our favorite projects are revamping old outdoor “smoke areas” to beautiful spaces that an entire company can enjoy – which is great for improved company culture and health!
